🏁 LIMITED EDITION 100 “NASCAR CHAMPIONS Art Series” by Alex Book Art 1951 NASCAR Champion Driver: Herb Thomas Car: Hudson Hornet Team / Owner: Herb Thomas Racing Official race name: Southern 500 Date: Monday, September 3rd, 1951 Racetrack: Darlington Raceway Location: Darlington, SC Track stats: 1.25-Mile Asphalt Oval Landscape & Architecture: The Darlington backstretch historic pedestrian bridge. This artwork belongs to my “NASCAR CHAMPIONS Art Series,” a collection devoted to the drivers, machines, and circuits that defined the formative decades of American stock-car racing. Each print is released as a Limited Edition of 100 and created entirely by hand. My working principle is constant and deliberate: Authenticity, precision, and historical accuracy in every stroke of my brush. I am Alex Book, an automotive artist and motorsport historian. My work is rooted in archival research and traditional techniques. In this series, the racing environment—grandstands, track surface, architecture, and atmosphere—is rendered in ink drawing with watercolor accents, inspired by early graphic engravings. The car and driver are executed in oil painting, allowing mechanical form, motion, and character to stand apart from the surrounding world. This piece depicts Herb Thomas, one of NASCAR’s most accomplished early champions, driving the formidable Hudson Hornet entered by Herb Thomas Racing. The scene captures the Southern 500, held on Monday, September 3rd, 1951, at Darlington Raceway in South Carolina. The 1.25-mile asphalt oval—narrow, fast, and unforgiving—quickly earned its reputation as “Too Tough to Tame.” The composition features the historic pedestrian bridge on the Darlington backstretch, a defining architectural element that anchors the artwork firmly in its original setting. For each subject in this collection, I offer four giclée art print formats, allowing collectors to choose between focused technical study and full historical context: a full vertical composition presenting the car within its racing environment, available on white or light beige backgrounds. All prints are produced as premium matte art prints on 175 gsm museum-grade archival paper, using pigmented archival inks selected for durability and tonal accuracy. Each print is hand-rolled in protective tissue and shipped in a reinforced tube or triangle box. The artwork is supplied unframed. This series is intended for collectors, historians, and dedicated motorsport enthusiasts who value research, craftsmanship, and historical truth—artworks created as visual documents of racing history rather than decorative reproductions. Unframed print, hand-rolled in protective paper and shipped in a rigid tube. Made in the USA from globally sourced materials.
